ZeFoxVille Build Update

Since I've place a little more than usual effort into increasing my AW recognition at the LZ and evolving this Blog, I have been greatly distracted from meeting the build bench marks, and have changed focus from the maze towards putting bells and whistles on the rest of the build.

I was fairly comfortable with the civic plaza when I realize that I was really limited on office space should I decide to expand the build staff.  And also that I wanted to put in a dance floor for when the build reached the beta testing announcement. I'm still shooting for a pre-Halloween announce date to showcase the exciting ZeMaze build that I'd started back in June with in two days of my return to AW.  I'm still attempting to keep this maze somewhat under raps, but I can't wait to see everyone's reaction when the beta test the build.

Update on build and more

 I’ve been having some real world issues lately that is really sucking up the free time that I use for my AW build and chats.  So, I’ve not been able to keep the social commitments as I had planned when I did have the time.

First Item:
Although, I have not been generating impromptu tours, I still troll for them on my days off but there are not many citizens at the LZ Wednesdays and Thursdays about 11:00 VRT.  So I think I need some way of getting to a hard point meeting appointment and having an announcement made.  A sort of regular moments, like they are doing with the explorers club.  Then just doing the tour with that citizen.

Second Item:
The fact that I could not get the PE to work with the Killer Bunny maze monster is still nagging me.  But I’ve missed the missed the beta release dated now, and need to march on with the build.  Today I started planning the Monorail. I’m planning to do a straight x pattern on the lot.  I did find a link or two around the LZ to give me pointers.  I love the mover that TenYearsGone did for the Expo.  Here is a photo that I made this morning on my exploration:

Third Item:
I believe that I’m almost ready to post for helper builders.  I have yet to complete the necessary management structure for the build unit, but I think this will be done sometime this month and I can post a notice to MyAW, when the job postings are up.  I have plenty of time and don’t want to derp this on up.  This is my first attempt at a major build here in AW on the city level, and there are plenty of ruins to use as an example of how to build at that level.  I must first learn what not to do that has turned so many AW cities to just a half baked plans and ruins.  This means first of all to go slow enough and be very cautious.

Last:
I did not expect the learning curve to be so high here again, but there has been a great amount of progress that make the building much more enjoyable now.  I still have a lot to learn, and want to keep this build in a dynamic state not in an inflexible static one.  So, it will call for the forming of an improvement committee as well.  This will have to be made up of the top contributors to ZeFoxVille. I been thinking that if I can do a PTZ reward system from MyAW that it would be helpful as well.  I’m going to work on this with.

Very Steep learning curve and more.

I can see by not being a chatty regular at the AW LZ that I’m missing out on a lot of good conversation, but I’m also attempting to meet a deadline at the build during the same time.  I was trying the last several days to create a visual effect to go along with the sound effect of the killer bunny attack.  It was something I saw at parties I went to such at Ten’s Monday Madness, and the TGIF party near the LZ.  However, I did not realize that the direction of the PE is fixed, and that you can not change the polar direction. Meaning that if the PE emits going N to S, it can not be turned to emit E to W.  However, it can be attached to a mover and will turn with the Mover direction.  This is the point where I’m now at, and I'm attempting the old tried and true trial by error method of learning both the PE and Mover as the help I’ve received thus far has been a little lacking for my understanding of these function.  I did ask Bach about a Master Build class, and he said that he would put this on the agenda at the community meeting, but my effort to gather minutes at the last meeting failed.  Here is a snapshot of the current bunny effort.

Anyway, the difficulty in not understanding these two coding items is causing a huge problem with my benchmark timeline.  I may in the end just going to beta, and then try to get the help after to resolve these issues. And of course, there are always real world issues I must attend to as well.

A build update on ZeMaze.

Since I could not be at the DEAL OR NO DEAL last night, I did a trial run of the park and collect chat run of the chat log that I plan to do for tonight community meeting.  And, from what I can see, it was a success.  So today when I go to work, I’ll have the log set before I walk out the door and when I get home I’ll work up the blog with some minutes.  Cross your fingers type of test, because if it works as expected there just might be minutes now of each meeting.

First I had to correct yesterday's blog fubar, which I’m still not clear on what happened to have a clone of the previous post, but it was an embarrassment.  One which I do not wish to repeat.

Anyway, as for the build.  I’m finding that the move sequencing is proving a lot more challenging than I had anticipated, and I’ve decided to set the beta test back on level one a couple of weeks.  I also must put in some effort on the control room.  Not to give too much away, but a few server banks and a war room type of console look, a little like in the movie West World, but much more modern.  Bots talking and everything.  I hope to have a map of the entire ZeFoxVille build here like they have at the current AW LZ.  I also started to look at blender to model a new bunny and try to work this in as well like was done with the fishes I’ve seen near the LZ, but still the build is much less painful that in 1995.

Problems with the Bunny and further progress on ZeMaze

When I felt satisfied enough with the bunny model, I attempted to continue on with the animation by moving the bunny.  I tried a group save, but the bunny seemed to just fall apart when it was loaded in.  And then when I attempted just push it to a new location, noticed that the walls started to vanish.  From my experience of AW in its infancy that this meant the the number of objects in that location was way too dense.

In my younger days, I would curse out loud over this ”Oh well” moment, but realize there was too little time remaining before the beta test to do anything other than to use the picture cube object. This would have to be improved in a future build release.  So I just parked the model on the wall with simple descriptive signage:

I then began to phase in the story board narration using two bots and a timed move sequence. I’m expecting to spend a few days more on this sub-build in the Maze but it should still be on track for Beta release.

Final Version of Killer Bunny Model

I'm not totally satisfied by this model, but it will have to do.  Right now it looks more like a huge mad dog than a cute cuddly little bunny. What can I say it’s AW and I have a build deadline for Beta Test. And, I've just got to cope with it for now.

Progress on Killer Bunny Model

The problem I currently have is there is no render file (rwx) for a bunny bot in the registry and there probably wont be any time soon.  So how do I come up with a bunny object that I can move with a animated sequence.  I tried p1cube0100.rwx and then though about Silly Putty’s Rabbit at the Expo LZ, and started to model my Killer Bunny.  Here is a snapshot of the progress:

More work on ZeHut animation sequencing

If I could tolerate the foolishness of some of the immature chat that I’ve seen spewing from the LZ as I’ve been working on my build, I’d probably be there more often and more sociable, but it seem so non-productive and wasteful to get involve when there are so many fixated on the mini tyrants.  For example, I’ve only been looking at the chat when I see something from certain people now like MeL and Bach Zhaa.

So suddenly I seeing that MeL and a peacekeeper is attempt to calm someone down and it catches my attention for a few minutes, but I see from the chat blog that this issue had been going on for some time and drowning out the other LZ voices with a flood of irrational trippy dominance.  All I could think was, “Is this person on drugs?”:

I don’t understand the need for all the emotional drama, and the venting at such a public place, but since I do security for a living, it set off the Wacky Doddle alarm in me, and I have a tendency to shun this type of behavior. The phobia of seeing this type of irrational out bust keeps me out of the LZ at peak hours for fear that I may come face to face in a chat session and to deal with this type of behavior. It would be very hard for me to grasp the proper responses.

Anyway, I did a lot of work towards polishing off the animation sequence in ZeHut.  Here are a few photos:

Update on ZeMaze and more.

I’ve been very busy in the real world attempting to get two bedrooms in my three bedroom home rented out.  I need the income just to pay the bills because my security job pays less per year than a burger flipping fool at Mickey D’s. I did get one room sold last night and it seem that I have the usual when it was offered problem on the other.  Whether people have the deposit money or are needing a new place has a lot to do with when pay day is here in Vegas.  If you don't get a room rented at the end of the month it is much more difficult for the two-week period before the 15th. and then is not as good as the 30th.  It is summertime in Las Vegas, and the electricity alone is running almost $300 for this month.  Up until this month I've not been charging tenants for Utilities but now I must as I can no long afford to give anyone a freebie on this.

Anyway, I  have continued to build every day to reach the end of the month deadline for the beta run through go-live event.  I’ve been concentrating most of my effort the last few days in ZeYard to refine the animation sequences of what I’m now naming ZeFoxy Bots.  Here are a few photos.  Note that I’m using the rotating cube as a text bubble for the bot’s voice:

I was working on the build about 5am and notice that McBanny was pecking on someone who I thought was a newbie to AW.  I went to the LZ for a short while after is was quite and found it was a couple of citizens working on their own project.  Here a little of the chat:

Zephyr Fox: (to The Courier) i'm working very hard on my build at the moment would love to help but I don't see have much time for a few months
(whisper from) The Courier: it's not really a build project though. it's more like a committee
Zephyr Fox: (to The Courier) when do you meet If it's like Bach Zaa's sunday meet I can always park and get back to you from the chat log
(whisper from) The Courier: well, it's sorta like Bach Zhaa's meets. Our project is called Alpha Works.
Zephyr Fox: (to The Courier) is it a world or is it with in Alpha??
(whisper from) The Courier: It's here, yes. We seek to help bring bring AW to a new era through the creativity, ingenuity, and input of the community.
