A Pre-TGIF build tour with OklahomaTraveler

Well, once again I show up in world on Monday, and immediately start trolling around the LZ for blog material.  But, this time I was attempting to get items for my Saturday build announcements when Bach Zhaa suggests doing a tour with OklahomaTraveler of his amusement park build before this week's TGIF at his club there.

At first, I was taken little aback when I made my initial inquiry by his quizzical type of reply, but then soon afterhe actually did graciously accept my request.  And, the following is the chat log of this brief impromptu build tour:

Zephyr Fox:    Say OT would you like people to stop by and checkout your amusement build before TGIF?
OklahomaTraveler:    OT would you like people to stop by and checkout your amusement build before TGIF.
OklahomaTraveler:    I said it, now what?
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    LOL Yeah, that'd be fine.. I couldn't resist.. LOL
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    No worries.. I like to mess with everyone. :D
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Would you be up for a tour?  Or I could just try to come up with a little something on my own before friday, but it wont be as good as you chatting it up.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Sure.. what do you want to know?
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I've started to blog the TGIFs is there any thing about the amusement park you would like people to know about before fridays event.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    LOL Think you should just take a look.. some of the most unique physics builds in AW.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) OK I'll Take a look see and have additional info then add it in summary like I did on this past weeks TGIF.  http://zephyr-fox.blogspot.com/2015/08/tgif-8282015.html
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Thanks
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    I'll be over here a bit.. if you have any
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Just thow out an invite when you're ready.
Zephyr Fox:    hello

Zephyr Fox:    I have to go slow due to the note and snapshots I take.

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Basically, I got tired of people saying there were no games in AW that wern't controlled by a bot.. so I created a large area that's just about games.  Most are physics based, some are two player, but all are pretty much unique to AW.
Zephyr Fox:    Ok so you show and I'll follow.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Ok so you show and I'll follow.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    There's between 30 and 40 games here, so it would take all night.. LOL  But I'll show you a few.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I try to limit to 45 min for these tours

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    LOL No worries..
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    The first game here is the volcano game.  It's a novel approach to 3D.. kind of a side shooter and a doom type game.

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    It's inside the building here.
OklahomaTraveler:    Is that the new code name for it now?
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) ok I'm iside but lost you
OklahomaTraveler:    I see ya..

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Clixk sign to start game..
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Game 1 is the easiest.. I'd do that one first to get a feel for things.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Use the signs to move the rocket.. and try not to hit any walls. LOL
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) OK I'll try it a little latter for snap shots, unless there is more to know here please lead on.  Thanks
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    ko..

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    These games are pretty easy.. sports related.  Like baseball, hit pitch then time it right to hit the ball.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Each game is a little different as far as these go.. tennis, you click the ball and try to keep going as long as you can.. basketball, try to make it in the basket.

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Whac a Mole is kind of unique as it uses a randomizer to show the moles..

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    The randomizer is in back here..

Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) very nice OT
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    It's kind of a unique concept.. can be used for a lot of things, from shuffling cards to picking random teleport locations. :)
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Some two player games.. battleship - a lot of people have asked for that one.  It's a long game to play, but kinda cool..
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Connect 4.. I could play this one for hours. LOL

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    You click on one of the colored dots and it drops it in to place, just like the real game.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Most of these over here are still under construction, but you get the idea..

Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) very nice

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Back to the other side..
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Physics based angry birds. :D

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    With more cell space, it could be just like the real game.(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    These through here are Atarii games.. some real easy, others hard.

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Frogger.. :D LOL
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Yup I was big on Atari in the 80s
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    For the billiards game, you have to fly up.. It's probably the most advanced billiards game in AW yet.

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    I loved Atari!
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    This big ring of controls can be moved.. it's complicated to play, but it is what it is. LOL  With a few more commands and more cell space it could be made better.

Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I workd just down the street from their Head Quarters in sunnyvale in 1985
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Really!! That is awesome!! Funny thing, I still have my old Atarii hooked up. :D
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    You'll like this one back here then.. :D
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    click this red sign..

Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) PacMan Super Kool
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    You hit the red sign?
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    I had a ghost in there, but people said it was too hard to play like that.. so took him out.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) very nice stuff here.  I'll add a teleport into the ZeMaze to this
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    ko.. one last thing.  I know there's a lot here - I wanted to make as many games as possible.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    The party area.. :D

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Media has to be enabled though..
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Almost everything here is a single youtube video..  Hopefully you can see it.

Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) very nice I'll have more shots in the TGIF blog when I make it there friday as it happens as well
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Click this sign here..

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Very cool.. :)  Hopefully it's something unique and people will enjoy it..
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Oh Nice a Ferris Wheel

(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Yeah, you get a lot of people in and it looks cool. :D  Change your view to get off..
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) MY chat window froze on that and I had to restart the browser app
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    That wouldn't surprise me.. it did that a couple times on my old PC.  It's cool so I don't want to remove it, but rider beware.. LOL
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I could not get f12 to exit me on the farris and the browser suddenly froze up to a blank chat window.
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Oh, have to change your view.. F12 is for movers.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I'll check my chat log but I may have lost the blue whispering.  Hope not.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I'm still ok with my log
(whisper from) OklahomaTraveler:    Good deal.. so what do you think?
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) I remember when yellow first opened
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Thanks very much for showing me this...I'll send a gram when it gets posted.....going to my build  now
OklahomaTraveler:    That was a long, long time ago.. I vaguely remember it.
OklahomaTraveler:    Also remember when Atlantis was the hot world.. LOL
OklahomaTraveler:    And thanks. :D  Have a good one!  I should get back to work myself.
Zephyr Fox:    (to OklahomaTraveler) Thanks again.....in 4321......PooooooF...........

OK, so that is the brief before TGIF build tour of OTs amusement park, and you're welcome to stop by any time to check his games out.   Especially, if you're sitting at the Alpha World LZ and you've start feeling that you're facing one of those sort of boredom moments where you're thinking. "I'd much rather be doing something else, than looking at this darn mind numbing blank chat window."  It is a great place to spend a little time and have some fun reminiscing on old video games of the past.  I know that I'm sure to see everyone at TGIF, where you can walk up and tell OklahomaTraveler personally yourself how very KOOL his amusement park is.

Click on the jump link below, if you wish to check out his build yourself.

An Interview With MeL

Yes, that's right, finally an interview with MeL.  Many will think that MeL would have been an obvious choice for one of my impromptu "show me your build" tours, but I realize early on after my return that MeL with her Peace Keeper role was not just going to agree to do an interview without knowing what she was in for.  So I did ask a few weeks back, after having posted a few of these interview tour type of blogs, if she would be interested.  And although I promised to sweeten the pot, by helping her with a little cheat sheet set of questions and letting her be in relative control of time and place, it was still a dicey sort of moment when I asked.  As MeL is considered one of the AW (for the lack of a better term) Community Elders, I went though a couple week of careful planning and gaining more blog tour experience before I scheduled for the tour.  This took place yesterday at her build in the very club lounge where she is host for the Adult Acronyms Games (at which I was Christensen an official AW perv in this past week's event).  So, here is highlighted chat log of that interview:

» Immigration Officer:    Welcome to the World of Delight,, Zephyr Fox

Zephyr Fox: Hello
MeL: have a sit down =)
MeL: hellowMeL:    hello
MeL:    sorry about the bold.. the bot was in privs for bold during the game  =)

MeL:    you dont have to use gestures in delight,, just click on the seat.. its has a Seq attached
Zephyr Fox:    Ya thanks for turning it off.
Zephyr Fox:    So did you invite anyone or are we alone?
MeL:    we alone.. waht me to shut off the world ?
Zephyr Fox:    So I see that you have a gold star, and been in AW for some time now.  How did you get started with AW?
MeL:    back in 2000 I got a email advertizing aw and I click to check it out..(They actualy advertized back then).Ive been in AW for around 15 years now. AW is my First "Ever" VR experience haha. AW is where I learn to build, made my first online friends,
MeL:    and when I learn how to copy and move a object and it was mine i was so excited, lol..I was hooked!. I just love being in AW. its my VR home
Zephyr Fox:    I'm pretty sure that you must have encountered a Gate Keeper on your first few days. What was that like?
MeL:    it was good, they help me with simple things like how to walk and fly.. they instructed me of ratings in worlds and was very nice about me being a noob.  =)
MeL:    it was nice to have someone there to help you with things when you first come in
Zephyr Fox:    Is that what persuaded you to become a Peace Keeper?
MeL:    kinda,. I enjoy the enviroment, the community, so what better way to give back - was to become a Peacekeeper and giving my time back to AW, patroling and keeping the peace to help make  it a better and more enjoyable place for people,. I find rewarding.
MeL:    Ive been a Pk now for almost 8  years.
Zephyr Fox:    Tell me a little of what a Peace Keeper does?
MeL:    we patrol AWI worlds and some private worlds upon the request of the world owner,. we help people with simple things like finding land.. troubleshooting issues..billing issues, and help people that has disputes with other citizens.. harrassment, and just
MeL:    in general keeping the peace
Zephyr Fox:    So your sort of chasing away the vagrants?
MeL:    well we dont want to chase anybody away.. hopefully we can help them see a new light, you know, change from being a troublemaker so they can see how enjoyable AW can be
Zephyr Fox:    Gacha,  Problem solvers more or less.
MeL:    mhm
Zephyr Fox:    So if I wanted to join the PK ranks there is a selection process right?
MeL:    you would fill out the app... give me reffernces , I will check thou refferences out.. and do a background check on your cit / cit number to see if there is any past cases against you. if you are clean.. then I would consider approving your application
MeL:    if I do. then the PKtraining is usealy 4 weeks or so. to complete
MeL:    that is really up to the trainee and their RL schedule
MeL:    some pktrainers are in the UK.. so sometimes scheduling classes can be time consuming
Zephyr Fox:    It was really something for me to come back and see a change to the LZ in for the 20th anniversary.  Tell me a little about your involvement with that?
MeL:    2015 Expo Build, - I had been involded with past Expo builds as well, the very first one by: Newman - I help with that Frist and the 2nd one.. I stop after that but, Expo buillds continued.
MeL:    Back in March, 2015' I Beleive,  During a community meeting  Bach brought it to the community Attention about a AW Expo Event and I offer to help in any way I could. I had worked with Bach before on projects
MeL:    and This Expo was gonna be Different than Past Expo's.  Past Expo's had Building Lots for people to display their builds, achievements, events, org's.. etc.. The 2015 Expo did that for the community
MeL:    too but, in a diff way. in the past people had to either build a new build at the expo area or have a bot do a backup and place it at the expo area. the 2015 expo has teleports to different people's
MeL:    builds and worlds. the community was still ivolded by letting one of the expo staff memebers know of such areas. this way the expo area wasnt lagged with builds and of course made the perfect
MeL:    landing zone area, no wonder Rick made it the Universe Landing Zone area, it was updated and fresh and if I say so myself.. looks damn good :D
Zephyr Fox:    Yup Really terrific stuff.
MeL:    that too  =)

Zephyr Fox:    I'd like to get a few shot now of your build.  Any thing that you would like to spot light?

MeL:    in delight, i have the twlight lounge.. and the party deck, both places is where i have the AdultGame at..Iam busy with RL, and being a PK in vr and other responibiltys in VR that dont leave much time for me to build often. haha
MeL:    the Twlight lounge we are in now
MeL:    Bach help me with this build
MeL:    and the party deck, bach also help me with
Zephyr Fox:    I just realized that the chair was a mover.
MeL:    I told you that eariler, haha. guess you didnt hear me =)
Zephyr Fox:    I need to clean out the ear wax.  I guess. I'm interested in getting help for my build.  Was that part of the process hard for you?
MeL:    getting help when I wanted it, lol..... when you have someone helping you.. it has to be on their time.. they have other things going on plus RL
MeL:    not hard. jsut have to be patience and respect that the person helping you have other things
MeL:    just
Zephyr Fox:    yea, that's the way I was think.  I worked a very big software build at Sun, and you have to go slow or things can get really fowled up.
MeL:    yes
Zephyr Fox:    So is there any thing on this build you would like me to get snapshots of for the blog?
MeL:    on occations the person helping you can just whip right in there and get her done... Bach is that way.. he is so talented on building.. his ideas and how to make things work and if it dont work. he will study it and find a wa
MeL:    way
MeL:    sorry brb.. have to tend to my son.. just a sec
MeL:    sorry, had to tend to my. he has lennox gastaut syndrome , a uncontrolable form of seizures,  got him settled thou
MeL:    this build the towers that lower down when you enter the zone
MeL:    i had the idea but couldnt put it together.. that is where i ask a friend for help and bach put it together
Zephyr Fox:    Wow, sorry to hear about your son. I'll be sure to get a snapshot of it for the blog.
MeL:    if you was to leave the zone and walk back into it coming in the club.. you will see the black towers lower themself displaying a more club like tower that sparkles
MeL:    ok np  =)  ty
Zephyr Fox:    The towers that is.  Say do you have a teleport hub for you other builds?
MeL:    at the landing entrance
MeL:    i have only 2 in the world so far
MeL:    clubs that is
MeL:    party places
Zephyr Fox:    Ok is there any thing else that I've missed that you'd like to mention?
MeL:    when I do get a few free minutes and want to build. sometimes that dont always work out cause as a PK when you are online, you are always on call. lol
MeL:    i dont think so
MeL:    Iam honor to have had this interview with you, ty
MeL:    I do apologise but, i have to run.. back to RL work
Zephyr Fox:    Do you have a buiild yard with your textures?  They are always a rave in the chat at the LZ.
MeL:    Thank you for your time and feel free to stay and check out the whole world
MeL:    i do not. sorry
MeL:    just my FTP
MeL:    I must go.. Ty..  have a great day.. seeya soon
MeL:    =)
Zephyr Fox:    Ok then I have the blog done in a day or so and will gram you when it gets posted.  Thank you very much for your time.
MeL:    ty  =)
Zephyr Fox:    Cya... on to the build ...in 4321...PooooF.....

As you can see, this interview had one of those "60 minutes" or "VIP/Head of State" documentary type of style to it.  As many of you may well understand, I feel it is necessary not to rush into an interview with any of the other more senior AW citizens, because I have this phobic concern towards the dreaded and infamous "You're such a derp" chat which we see quite frequently at the LZ.  I suppose the closest label I can have for doing a tour in this way, would be to say; "It was done with all due respect."  A virtue that seems to be sadly lacking at times in today's society, and it's something that is greatly appreciated by AW more seasoned citizens.

It wasn't a chaotic zippy sort of "I'll show him everything" tour, nor was it the "I didn't know I was being interview" tour, but because MeL has huge commitments, it did not go without being interrupted, and I was a little forced at the end to get in my usual "Where's your teleport hub?"  A must have when you're a seasoned builder and have many builds under your belt.  Here is the snapshoots of the other places she has to check out in World of Delight:

MeL is always very friendly and excellent helper, but you can be easily "Derpped" around the ears by the Peace Keeper side of her too, if you choose to get too careless.  Over all it is a true blessing to see her at the LZ, and to be able to get in a little chat with her.   If you ever need the help, just ask.   She is well known as the go to person for help with the artsy texture stuff, and is often very fun to be around when she's in her hosting persona.   So in other words, be careful, but don't be too phobically stupid with her, or you may really turn out to be a real Derp.

If you're interested in becoming a peace keeper, (BTW: MeL is the PKADirector), check out their web site: http://www.peacekeeper.net/

And, if the term "Derp" is confusing to you, please check out this web  page:
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/06/derp-meaning-origin.html

So if you in AW and someone shouts "Derp" at you, it is generally because you committed an AW sort of faux pas, and generally is not meant to insult you.

Post Publish edit addition 9/20/2015: Dodgy provided me with an excellent text to speech translation for this tour which I am adding to this post:

A build tour with dbzfan345

I was totally zoned into my build yesterday when I see on the Global wire that dbzfan345 is in this very chatty, come see what I've done, mode and makes an announcement about a Union Station building which he's done over at the Fantasia build site. So I immediate put on my interview cap and check the camera, before entering the coordinates into the teleport box on the pull down menu. For anyone who doesn't know dbzfan345, he is one of the young citizens who prefers hanging with SirGreendown over at AWteen and can be found often at the LZ contributing to the chat gathering there. I'm sure he'll be very helpful as well with any questions you have regarding activities in AWteen. Here is the chat log of that interview:

dbzfan345:    *googles*
Highwayman:    nah just a litter bug
dbzfan345:    "he New York office of Grimshaw and LA based Gruen Associates were officially awarded the Los Angeles Union Station master plan in July of 2012"
dbzfan345:    that?
Highwayman:    like how they call it master plan, like it's devious or something............lol

Zephyr Fox:    Ozy building here as well?

dbzfan345:    before primitives, pans, or large cell spaces
dbzfan345:    my first building ever happens to be a house in cofmeta

Zephyr Fox:    I was here originally in AW 1995, but don't have a clue where those builds are now.

dbzfan345:    i'm really proud of my skyscrapers
Zephyr Fox:    Thanks for the tour.......In 4321.........PoooooooooooooF.............
dbzfan345:    bye!

Again a rather zippy sort of interview.  But, over all it was slow enough to get most everything down, and I didn't feel too rushed to log everything.  He got things to scale for sure.  Very tall buildings that could easily pass for the real ones, but most are hollow.  Very good replicas,  not easy to accomplish in AW, but little of the bell and whistle stuff you'll find in many of the extreme builds. However, with just one green star, you can tell that he is well on his way towards becoming a master builder and a respected citizen in the AW community.  Click  on the jump link below, if you wish to check out his build yourself.
